I have a Motorola Surfboard DOCSIS 3 modem (6121) and it seems to get really warm when it constantly tries to connect. I'm actually worried that this is going to kill my modem. It isn't uncommon to just have my connection randomly drop for a few minutes or simply stop sending data. The speeds may be decent with Comcast, but the overall service is rather sub par. I think my Internet is only $53 for their 20Mbps package.

The thing is also that if you truly had the ports blocked, you would not be able to connect at all instead of getting random disconnects. Having commercial internet, they accidentally left the NAT turned on, this prevented most ports from being visible from the outside world. I also called them and confirmed they do not do it, you have to manually change the modem tcp and udp rules.
